Our old wooden pavilion is falling to pieces. We're building a new one to bring real benefits to our club and local community. Please help!

by Richard Leach in Halifax, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

This CrowdFunder is part of a wider campaign to raise the £100,000 needed to bridge the funding gap which has arisen due to the negative impact of covid on sporting grants and to build price inflation.

So please support us in achieving our stretch target of £40,000, which will make the bringing to life of the pavilion project on time and fully fitted-out all the more likely.

Thank you very much, we are extremely grateful for all contributions.

We are a thriving cricket club with a proud history. We have more active cricket playing members than any club in Calderdale, including over 150 junior players.

Our 100-year-old, red painted, wooden pavilion is iconic in cricketing circles and in the local area. But the wood is rotten, it’s becoming unsafe and it’s definitely beyond repair.

We have approved plans to build a new PAVILION to serve us for the next 100 years…..

We thought we had all the funding in place. But Covid has reduced grants for cricket projects and inflation has caused the build cost to soar.

We need to raise another £100,000 to complete the fit-out. And we’re desperate to be open for the start of the 2023 season.

So, we would massively appreciate your help, as we lay the foundations for future generations!    Thank you

We run five senior teams – four men’s and one women’s – playing every weekend of the summer. On Saturdays we continue to play in the world-famous Bradford Cricket League, on Sundays we compete in the Halifax League.

Our senior teams contain many young players who have come through our junior sides. In the 2022 season there were typically 10-12 players in the first and second teams each week who were/are active junior members.

And it is our strategy to build highly competitive senior teams of the future from our junior ranks.

Our committed band of volunteer coaches and managers allow us to run an amazing 13 junior teams between U9 and U18 (including multiple teams at some age groups).

We’ve produced countless county juniors over the last 10 years – playing for West Yorkshire and the full Yorkshire age group sides.

On top of this we introduced over 50 boys and girls under the age of seven to the game this summer!

Two of the current England Test team - Alex Lees and Ollie Robinson - have come through our ranks.

In the last three years we have also developed a new petanque court with over 70 playing members.

Not bad for a village with fewer than 5,000 people.

Lightcliffe CC has been a community club for more than a century.

Within sight of the village church and pub, yet with a beautiful rural setting, we’re are at the heart of the village in more senses than one.

For the past 25 years, cricket has given way on a Sunday in high summer to the famous Lightcliffe Community Gala on our ground. The gala is a key family social event of the village with singing, acting and dancing performances by the local schools, lots of children friendly activities and stalls, and a chance for everyone to bump into friends over tea and cakes.

Our members come predominantly from the village of Lightcliffe and its surroundings. The club is run by many volunteer members, who provide hours of loyal and dedicated service to the club and community. Junior managers, coaches, umpires and scorers, tearoom and bar staff, groundsmen and gardeners provide thousands of hours each season to keep the club strong and moving forward.

Now we are looking to the new pavilion project to further deepen and enhance our bonds with the community by creating a far more desirable meeting place and opening it up to the community far more regularly.

This crowd funder is a vital element of our plans to raise the final £100,000 to complete the fit-out in full.

With a completed fit-out, the new pavilion will bring massive benefits for club members and the local community alike.

The modern first-floor changing, showering and viewing facilities for players and officials are long overdue.

The ground floor areas will give spectators a far better experience watching the cricket in all weathers and members will enjoy socialising after games and training.

The venue will be available for community hire and private events all year round – a major improvement on the summer-only operation which is dictated by our current facilities.

The layout will be highly accessible, with the car park, the main function room, toilets and patio all on the same level. The glorious views through the large glass frontage over the cricket field and hills beyond, combined with the cosy feel created by modern insulation, eco-heating systems and LED lighting, are sure to make the new pavilion a popular venue for community groups, in a village which is very short of these facilities.

Construction of the new pavilion started in September 2022 and is due to be completed by April 2023, in time for the new season.

We have already raised over £500,000. Now we need the final £100,000 to complete the fit-out fully, so we can deliver all the benefits and future plans laid out here.

If we are successful in hitting our campaign target, we will be supported through match funding from the Birmingham 2022 community programme fund. This fund, which is a legacy of the Commonwealth Games held in the city this year, aims to transform, inspire and strengthen local communities by delivering new, improved facilities, and by helping communities and athletes to live happier, healthier lives.

Our project fulfils the Birmingham 2022 mission perfectly, by creating new, higher quality opportunities for the local community all year round, and giving a massive boost to our cricket section, with its modern facilities creating more fulfilled players.

We do need to both hit our target and receive contributions from at least 100 individual people to secure this grant, so please do pass on the message far and wide to get the numbers contributing nice and high.

We very much hope you will support our cricketing and community project, as we lay the foundations for future generations. Time is short as this campaign is only planned to run for four weeks, so please make your contribution early.

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge or buy some of our rewards. Or better still do both! Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success.

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. If you want to run your own fundraiser to support us, maybe a sponsored activity or similar, use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!

Here are images of some of the rewards we are offering to make sure you can be confident of what you are getting, and to recognise the generous providers of these rewards. Further rewards can be added during the campaign, so if you're a local business who'd like to contribute a reward, please get in touch right away.
