Think you have the best chili in the world? Prove it and win a coveted prize this Saturday at the Fire, Ice and Spice Festival.

Marine City Chamber Director Jeanne Burris-Johnson said they started the festival as a way to spread enjoyment of Michigan winters. The event features fire performers, ice skaters and a chili competition. Additionally, the festival is a way for the chamber to raise money for its operations.

“It’s just a fun and great way to enjoy the Michigan winters,” Burris-Johnson said.

Fire, Ice and Spice will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in Heritage Park, located at 300 Broadway St. in Marine City. Admission into the festival is free.

Both community members and local restaurants will be competing for the title of best chili. The cost of the taste test wristband is $8, and people can vote for their favorite at the end.

The winner of the chili cookoff will receive a wooden spoon with Fire, Ice and Spice 2023 engraved into it.

“It’s a coveted award” Burris-Johnson said. “Everyone wants it.”

Burris-Johnson said the last day to sign up is Wednesday. Chili cookoff registration can be found on the Marine City Chamber of Commerce website.

Some of the businesses competing include Anita’s Riverfront Grill, Gar’s Lounge, Marine City Fish Company and Harbor Health Homecare. Jet’s Pizza will be providing bread.

“Everyone thinks they have the best chili in the world,” Burris-Johnson said. “This is the time and place to confirm you do in fact have the best chili.”

Other things to look forward to include free skate at 3:30 p.m., music, coffee and cocoa, a winter fairy from Wonder Wolf Entertainment, raffles and fire pits. Kids activities will take place inside the Teen Rec Zone, located inside the park.

If there is enough snow, there will also be a sled hill.
